Established in 2009, Teachers in Action is a partnership between the University of Central Florida and United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of Central Florida that engages undergraduate education majors in meaningful service-learning activities with persons with disabilities.
This unique partnership, made possible by a federal grant from Learn & Serve America, meets important needs of both populations, providing valuable field experiences for aspiring teachers while creating a dedicated volunteer force assisting children, youth and adults with disabilities in Central Florida.
In Spring & Summer 2010, pilot groups completed the Teachers in Action mini-webcourse, creating and implementing service-learning projects that involved persons with disabilities in their communities. As of December 2011, nearly 1,500 pre-service educators have participated!
